Slowly – Spraining my ankle

So there I was following my usual morning routine on Tuesday when I looked back at the clock and realised how quickly time had flown by. I had to get to that baby class that I attend every Tuesday’s. So I quickly gathered up all my things, got my little one ready, packed all her things and set to head out. But being in such a rush, I missed a step near the front porch and slipped and fell over.

I screamed in pain, my ankle/foot hurt so much and my little one began to cry after seeing me in pain. Trying to console my little one whilst being in so much agony was extremely difficult but I managed to calm her down. Luckily, she was in her car seat so I was able to rock her, whilst I just sat there on the floor. I stretched over and grabbed the baby’s bag and searched for my phone. I quickly dialed my husbands number and told him to get home as soon as possible. He was at work. As I sat there sobbing, whilst rocking my little one in the car seat and clenching my fist all I could think about was my actions. If I had just been a bit more prepared in advance and took things slowly then I could have avoided this all together.

As my husband finally arrived home I couldn’t have been any more happier to see his face. He quickly took my little one in who by then was fast asleep and then he came and helped me. That day I was in so much pain to the point where I thought I had broken my ankle and all I could do was take medicine and sit on the sofa with my foot elevated. It has been 3 days and I am still limping around but recovering slowly.

However, this very strongly reminded me of the famous “Tortoise and Hare” story. Rushing in a race, or to attend a class or in life will never get you where you want to be like the hare. But taking your time, going at a steady pace (even if it takes you longer than a ‘normal’ person) will eventually bring you to your goal, like the tortoise. Take your time and you will accomplish what you’re set out to do, by rushing you’re more likely to bring on calamities, which could have been avoided.

Life is not a race; take it easy and slowly and you will get there in the end.
